Actions to Change the World
Take public transit
A bus carries the same number of people as 50 cars. And it’s going there anywhere.
Install energy-saving light bulbs
An energy-saving light bulb might not seem cheap but over it’s lifetime it could save you $130 bucks and a lot more besides. Like the planet!
Recycle your mobile phone
There are 9.3 million mobile phones replaced in Canada every year which equates to around 1,000 tonnes of landfill.
Recycle your books
Give your books to a charity, school or local library. Save a tree!
Hang your washing out to dry
One load of laundry in the dryer uses enough energy to make 250 pieces of toast.
Recycle your computer
Give your computer to someone who can make good use of it.
Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
Most people leave the tap running while brushing their teeth. This wastes up to 9 liters of water a minute or 26,000 liters of water per family, per year.
Use a mug not a disposable cup
We use over eight billion disposable cups a year in Canada. Put your coffee in a mug, and not in a disposable cup. It will not only taste better, you’ll do your bit to help save the planet.
Use both sides of paper
Over 170 million trees are cut down every year for the paper that's used in Canadian offices alone. Use both sides of paper, save a tree!

About we are what we do
We're not another charity. We're not an institution. We Are What We Do is a movement. We'd like to inspire people to use their everyday actions to change the world. Whoever they are. And wherever they are. And that includes you.
We've created 50 simple, everyday actions that can improve our environment, our health, and our communities, making our planet and the people on it much happier. We started by putting these actions in a book, but the whole movement is getting bigger. And bigger.
